Thrilled with the beach town location of their summer house in the Los Angeles area, but not with its loud ’90s-era architecture, a family of four approached Blue Truck Studio with a directive — tone it down. What they had: a Manhattan Beach house with wild geometry, such as octagon-shaped rooms and triangular spaces.
The Karioi retreat was not be used as a permanent residence and needed to be suitable for accommodating friends, family and short term boarders. Spatial considerations were to include sleeping spaces that could share amenities (but feel private), a boat shed, outdoor shower and rooms for bunks.
The project is a furniture showroom, situated on the first floor of a factory building in Shenzhen, China. The building, not designed by architects, is very ordinary and has a low profile, without any special features other than functionality.
The design of this studio apartment arises from the customer’s request to have a very flexible space that could accommodate different needs: comfortable for working, business meetings, relax, b&b and pied-à -terre.
Stepping into this 3,000-sq-ft flat in Sky Oasis in Macau, you will be welcomed by the warmth of the natural materials – a simplistic, minimalist symphony of three kinds of wood, stone, paper and an occasional hint of brass.
