The original, gambrel-roofed home in Waldoboro, Maine was built in the 1980s and set back from the water a few hundred feet. The home needed a major update and expansion, and the owners wanted to really make it a place that reflected their family spirit.
This Chelsea apartment occupies the top floor of one of a series of brick rowhouses that were joined together to create a larger building. In the existing layout, the street frontage of the unit is split between the living and dining spaces on one side and one large bedroom on the other.

The Pacific pavilion opens out in two directions, to the east (ocean) and to the west (farm). The views in both directions seem to go forever, the rolling hills give the ocean views a run for their money. The remote location meant the project needed to be manage extremely well and it also needed to fit within a challenging timespan.

Its gorgeous setting called for a design that drew visitors closer to the ocean cove, and conveyed a sense of organic modernism that didn’t compete with its peaceful setting in the trees.

When the owners purchased this 1970’s ranch home in Kentfield, Marin County, it was dark, dank, and in danger of sliding down a hill. The interior was dated and needed to be updated to modern standards.
