The site is a standard City of Austin urban infill lot with several trees located along one side. Aiming to protect and embrace existing trees, the residence is configured as a series of deliberate steps surrounding a side yard and is hence titled “ sideSTEP House ”.

The G’Day House is a commission for an Australian ex-patriate family, who requested a home that would support a relaxed attitude toward daily life and would help them re-connect with a warm-weather lifestyle. Column-free sliding doors at the Southeast corner of the house effectively double the size of the living area when open; indoor and outdoor spaces hold equal priority.
A chic, minimalist style is used in this 58 m2 mini apartment. While we may be used to seeing more traditional spaces for families to gather, there are plenty of ways to dress them up while still being practical. Custom furniture is made with flexibility to meet the requirements of household storage.
The first house designed by Namelok is inspired by liberal theories of mid-century architects like Lina Bo Bardi and Aldo van Eyck. The design of House 1 serves as a perfect base for a young and modern family where three design principles are at the base: the kitchen as the beating heart, openness through horizontal and vertical connections and visible constructions versus tangible textures.
