Four-Season Family Cabin in Southern Ontario by Ian MacDonald

This four-season family cabin is a response to the cultural heritage landscape of Go Home Bay, an enclave of Ontario’s Georgian Bay archipelago. An area immortalized by the Group of Seven with rocky outcroppings populated by white pines shaped by the west winds, the structure respects the landscape by disappearing within it.

Formerly the site of a traditional Venice bungalow, this new 2 story residence respects the scale of the 3600sf parcel with an efficient organization of programs. The “shotgun” style ground floor plan is flanked by a linear courtyard which mirrors the interior social spaces and functions as an outdoor living room.

A unique detail of the apartment’s furnishings are armchairs from the factory in Zadziel the 1950s, which have undergone specialized refurbishment. The photographs of Maria Svarbovej were used to decorate the walls. The Warsaw Filtry flat project inaugurates the launch of the Warsaw branch of the Loft KolasiÅ„ski interior design studio.

Car Park House

Starting with a vacant lot with a very steep down-slope from the street, the design of the Car Park house places the carport on the roof with the residence below. In addition to being a dramatic shift of expectations, it is also a logical response to the building code which requires parking for two vehicles.
