This coastal retreat at Langs Beach embodies the relaxed lifestyle that defines NZ bach culture—whether you’re spending a day at the beach or unwinding in your own sunny sanctuary with family and friends.
Located on the leeward slope of the sand-dunes bordering Ocean Beach reserve in Tairua, Tent Beach house is set 100m back from the water’s edge with the brow of the dune just beyond the site’s sea-ward boundary.
Located in the rural context of Oratia, Auckland, Apple Shed sits on a 1.9HA rural lifestyle block consisting of two lots. The site, mainly pastureland, has a gentle slope towards the northern boundary.
Our clients fell in love with this south-facing site and the idea of occupying it completely, without formality and off-grid. We proposed not a house, but an encampment: three small buildings embodying different aspects of occupation, clustered around a loose sun-drenched courtyard.
The brief was for a primary residence for a couple without children with provision for occasionally used guest accommodation for friends visiting from overseas. The site as presented was a steep slope with magnificent sea and coastal views to the east into which a building platform had already been cut, with its associated timber pile retaining wall.
30km North-West of Auckland City, Bethells is a coastal community located on one of Auckland’s popular west coast beaches. Bethells community is separated from the beach behind sand dunes that have accumulated over the last several thousand years. An area of natural beauty and wild landscapes, it is surrounded by mountains and native bush.
