The client approach us with a brief to renovate their double fronted cottage in hawthorn, after a few briefing session with the clients, it became very clear that their lifestyle revolved around their garden and spending their days outdoor as much as possible.
Located in Northcote, Garth was once a dilapidated nineteenth century Italianate Victorian masonry dwelling who has since been restored and added to with an elegant and restrained timber addition to accommodate a young family of five and two energetic dogs.
An addition to an existing red brick double fronted Victorian, this home is arranged to allow a strong axial progression from front to rear. Formal spaces are zoned within the original front rooms whilst the rear caters for the main family spaces at the ground level with sleeping spaces above.

These twin pavilions serve as an extension of the existing home, blending dramatic design with rugged yet refined architectural elements.
Occupying a quiet street in a conservative neighbourhood, the additions nestle into the suburban setting respecting the scale, form, and materiality of it’s context. The additions weave between the constraints of a substantial hoop pine, the existing house and a pool sited centrally in the backyard.
