In this house of 300 m2 located in the most central area of the Diagonal of Barcelona, a comprehensive reform of Interior Design, Decoration and Styling was executed.
The project consist of the refurbishment of an apartment located in an old building at the Barcelona Gracia district. The former 90 m2 apartment, was strongly partitioned with up to 6 rooms and showed a dark appearance with almost no connection with the outdoor space.
The project consists of the interior reform of a former gatekeeper residence, located on the roof of a building in the Barcelona district Gracia. Enjoying a privileged location overlooking the neighboring buildings and surrounded by a large terrace, this apartment showed serious deficiencies such as its small size of 38 m2.
The previous state of the Sardenya apartment belonged to a way of living incompatible with the requirements of the new owner. These new requirements, even starting from the domestic conventionality, left enough freedom to treat the new apartment in a less corseted way.
The Barcelona Duplex was recently completed by Raul Sanchez Architects. The starting point was two independent dwellings on top of each other on the ground floor and mezzanine of a modest, old apartment building between dividing walls in the heart of the Raval (Barcelona).
With the experience of the previous projects in mind, this time we decided to do away with anything that we considered to be superfluous, leaving us with a clean, structural enclosure and granting a greater degree of freedom.
The inspiration for this apartment draws from the culturally-vibrant Barcelona life and high-end fashion. The eclectic palette of rich, quality materials adds integrity and authenticity to the space. Raw wood is mixed with metals, suedes and high-gloss surfaces to create a sensory experience.
A housing unit that due to Barcelona´s rising rental apartment demand was divided, as it happens with theatre plays, in three acts. Located in the very heart of Poblenou it manages to reflect the neighbourhood’s industrial character while sequentially unfolding its spaces in a narrative manner.
The project, meant for a bachelor with a penchant for sports and cycling and a passion for design, transformed a highly partitioned, ancient layout, dark apartment into an open-spaced two-bedrooms home with a large living space and bespoke features.
