The corner lot at the base of San Jacinto Mountain in the Vista Las Palmas tract in Palm Springs included an altered mid-century residence originally designed by Charles Dubois with a simple, gabled roof originally in the ‘Atomic Ranch’ style and sweeping mountain views to the west and south.
The vacated space in the form of a gable becomes one of the sequences going into the Manhwarican house. And let it shine the sunshine indirectly. The vacated space in the form of gaps changes with time, and the feeling of space also changes.
The Broombank House is set into the banks of the sloped site and accessed via a single-track lane that arrives into a sunken entrance courtyard, offering glimpses of the views beyond. The brief from our client was to create a relaxed contemporary house within a reconsidered, ‘natural’ landscape that blurred the site boundaries to its neighbours and adjoining marshland.
The Corner Pocket House is a complete transformation of a cramped 1950’s bungalow into a modest contemporary dwelling with newly invigorated common spaces.
This two bedroom guest house sits along a ridge in a grove of over 120 coast live oak trees. The Oak Pass Road guesthouse uses its height and a small footprint to maximize panoramic canyon views and strengthen its connection to the surrounding tree-filled site.
Royal Crest Residence was designed for a rambunctious family of five. The family wanted all the typical things families want in a home, open kitchen and living room, mudroom, playroom and large covered outdoor space.
As is typical with our work this residence is a complete reflection of the homeowners. The Wateka residence was thoughtfully planned to make a comfortable space that lives with them.
Bonita Residence is a small house for a couple that love to entertain and have fun. The couple wanted an industrial, loft look. We searched for an old building to reassemble on the site but the long and narrow site conditions narrowed the search. Instead we used old materials to repurpose in the house, including materials from the dilapidated house and barn that existed on the site.
