This new home is built on part of the clients’ family farm. It is designed to be comfortable for 2 people but easily expand to accommodate the influx of extended family. Verandah House is a relaxed, casual series of covered and open spaces designed to maximise the views and offer ultimate flexibility.
This new concrete and cedar family home works hard to maximise the clients programme needs within the tight constraints of this small urban beachside site. This minimalist beachside house had to have a minimal and hardwearing material palette to respond to the harsh coastal environment.
The house is designed as a multi-generational retreat for the whanau offering manaaki (hospitality/comfort) to the whanau for current and future generations. The house is located on longstanding whenua (land) at the foot hills of Mount Ngongotaha in Rotorua which has been in the family for 16 generations.
A central Auckland apartment with magnificent views of the harbour. Hare Interiors has created a calm retreat away from the bustle of Ponsonby Road. A subtle palette within the interior is complimented with textural stones, bold forms and accents of colour.
A two level family home built into the hillside of a sloping site on a small peninsula between Charteris Bay and Diamond Harbour, Banks Peninsula. The stone-clad base holding bedrooms is sunken into the land while extensive glazing opens the living level up to dramatic views. An organic roof form floats above this with the fascia clad in GRC paneling.
This 135 square metre house is located in an inner city Wellington suburb. Tight sunlight planes from all four neighbours, luscious existing native vegetation and a steep slope on an unusually shaped site determined the folded boomerang shape.
The brief called for a beach house which takes advantage of the spectacular natural environment surrounding the site and is able to be used year round. Our response was to lift all of the living functions of the Kawakawa house onto an upper level to give views of the ocean from the living room and to lift the bedrooms up and closer to the light and the canopy of the trees.
The brief was for a primary residence for a couple without children with provision for occasionally used guest accommodation for friends visiting from overseas. The site as presented was a steep slope with magnificent sea and coastal views to the east into which a building platform had already been cut, with its associated timber pile retaining wall.
