Outward Bound, a recently renovated waterfront retreat located on Orcas Island in Washington State designed by the Seattle-based firm Heliotrope Architects. In updating the interior and exterior, the design firm opened up the home to scenic water and mountain views beyond which had been previously closed off.
Conceived as a minimalist retreat, the marching orders for this project were as follows: “when I arrive and sit my bags down, I want to feel as though I’ve stepped into a modern art gallery”.
Located on a rocky, wind-swept south facing shoreline; this retreat home nestles into the landscape to harmonize with its surroundings and minimize exposure to weather. The home is a vacation retreat for a family of four
