Komorebi House is a single-family dwelling designed for rent, a typology that has become common in the area and that carries the challenge to design for an anonymous but identifiable user, mostly young families moving from central to southern Chile.
We came in contact with the DH House through a very close client, who wanted to build a special affordable budget retirement home for him and his wife. With this as the starting point, the project takes a simple form with many low tech design strategies to reach its current state.
Perched on the edge of an escarpment, the modest retreat is set on a small plateau of limited dimensions. Almost straddling the void, it runs along the top of the cliff providing a bird’s-eye view of the Long Lake with the Appalachian mountains as a backdrop.
Inspired by the simple and prevalent image of wood docks found along the edges of the Muskoka lakes, the Muskoka boathouse was conceived as a series of planar elements that slide past one another.Â
Located in the middle of a bull paddock sits an off-grid home inspired by the iconic Australian Akubra hat. This inspiration came about at the first meeting with the clients on their bull farm, around 50mins southeast of Tamworth.
The house as a lair, a hideout, a shelter. A reflection which distorts and expands the garden, while confuses and protects. I can not guess the inside, a bit closer, now i can peep through the great silver oculus drilling the reflection.

A series of cabins – Denison Rivulet Cabins – these structures provide accommodation for couples at the bend of river, just north of Bicheno. The buildings establish a strong engagement with the wider site, through a series of interior strategies and plan relationships that create unique and memorable experiences for guests.
