This modern single family home fits organically into its hilly lakeside site just outside of St. Paul, Minnesota. The single story home features a “look-out” basement level to accommodate for more sun-lit living spaces.
Recently completed, we designed this home for a family of four in the Nelson Preserve area of Suncadia, where the clients desired a home that hugged the landscape but had a peek-a-boo view of the vistas beyond.
The design solution that resulted is the marriage of landscape and architecture. Though the neighborhood itself is graded flat, the parkland to the north is a wild original dunescape. By restoring our idea of the original natural state to the site, we created a set of hydrodynamic dunes with penetrations that allow water to sluice through the land
Utilizing the modest footprint of the existing foundation, the Abramson Residence was designed in a way to maximize its tight parameters while still creating open spaces, a dynamic feel, and an unrestricted floor plan.
Throughout the residence, there is a strong theme of horizontal lines integrated with a natural, woodsy palette and a gallery-like aesthetic on the inside. The Walnut Cove Residence combines the clean lines and simplicity of modern design with the warmth and functionality of a cozy home.
The home, which recently won an AIACC Honor Award, is located on an ex-urban infill site that covers almost eight acres of a Bay Area suburb at the base of the Oakland Hills, draped in rich green foliage and native oak trees.
High above the Housatonic River in western Massachusetts, just two miles from the New York border, a winding road ascends the ridge of a mountain and leads to a quiet gravel turn-off at the Berkshire Residence.
