Location: Prerow, Germany
Area: 135 sqm
Completed: 2017
Located in the Baltic Sea resort of Prerow, this holiday home is a modern interpretation of the typical reed-thatched house. As the reeds not only cover the roof ( Thatched Roofs )but also gables and side walls, the house has a monolithic character.
To the north, a single-storey building with a façade of rusty steel faces the street and forms an interesting contrast to the main building. To the south, the house opens out with large window fronts to a meadow that stretches out to the Darßwald forest.
The simple and sleek interior design features an understated colour palette, drawing on the rustic tones of the surrounding landscape. The heart of the house is the large living room complete with seating by the fireplace, a kitchen and dining area. On the ground floor there is also a bedroom with a bathroom, and a sauna with a panoramic window. A filigree staircase that features an elegant curved handrail leads to the upper floor where there are two further bedrooms (each with an en suite bathroom).
The house has two terraces facing the east and west sides and a large garden with an outdoor fireplace.
