Nestled within a picturesque 1960s development by the serene shores of a nearby lake, the Trento Lakeside Retreat exudes elegance and a deep reverence for nature. This project, driven by the clients’ dedication to eco-sustainability, features two distinct residences—one on the ground floor and another on the first floor—each designed to harmonize with the natural surroundings.

The architectural concept divides the building into contrasting volumes that respond thoughtfully to their orientation. To the north, a volume cloaked in light-colored plaster presents itself as an archetypal house, offering a sense of tranquility and privacy with minimal openings to shield the sleeping areas from external noise. In stark contrast, the southern volume is finished in dark plaster and designed to interact dynamically with the lot. This section of the building opens up through generous windows that not only invite ample natural light but also frame and celebrate the surrounding landscape, creating a visual connection that feels almost tangible.

Internally, the design strategically utilizes open spaces to further connect the residents with the outdoors. The ground floor extends into an east-facing garden, providing a peaceful, green oasis directly accessible from the living areas, perfect for morning relaxation and connecting with nature. The first floor maximizes its southern exposure with three expansive windows that not only enhance the views but also contribute to passive solar heating during cooler months.

The commitment to sustainability extends beyond the aesthetic and functional design; meticulous attention to the management of building systems and the thermal envelope ensures that the Trento Lakeside Retreat achieves an A+ energy rating. This high standard of energy efficiency signifies the homeowners’ commitment to sustainable living, reducing their environmental footprint while enjoying a life in symbiosis with the stunning lakeside landscape.
