City Loft is a two-storey flat recently renovated by Schöne Raum in Frankfurt am Main, Germany.
Description by Schöne Raum: We have been approached by one of our long standing clients for adapting the upper two levels of a house located in the backyard to match his personal requirements. The two-storey flat had been renovated before and distinguished by the generous, surface levelled glassing and the roof terraces at both floors.
The design concept was to highlight the functional areas at the lower level by minimal modifications to the floor plan. Thus, the wall between entry area and sleeping room got re-positioned and redundant doors between dining area and sleeping room were removed. Consequently, an open floor plan allowed for zoning the several distinguished rooms around the central area by particularly designed and set bottlenecks.
The functional area resumes the two bath rooms and the inner stair case linking the two levels. The kitchen that in contrast to the white walls and ceiling has been made out of black MFD closes in the direction of the dining area. The longitudinal hallway between dining and sleeping area hosts an approx. 8 m in-build board. The kitchen area continues into the hallway. Thus, the lengthy wall opposite of the wall board got accentuated and, a connection established between kitchen and hallway.
At the upper level, the client wanted to pursue his passion for listening to music, a DJ-console was designed for the music room. The console matches to the black material used for kitchen elements and thus, transports it to the upper level. A disc shelf has been integrated into the half-height drywall parapet in which, like in a music shop, the collection can be searched. An approx. 30 m² terrace complements the upper level.
