Villa Amonita Lanzarote gave OOOOX the unique opportunity to embrace Lanzarote’s architectural traditions and transform an existing villa into a serene, modern retreat. Respecting Lanzarote’s strict design rules for white exteriors, green accents, and low building heights, the design creates a harmonious blend of architecture within the island’s lava-black landscape.

Honoring Local Design with Thoughtful Modifications

Originally designed by DISEÑO LANZAROTE, the villa from 2000 catered to a couple’s needs with spacious, open areas. OOOOX reimagined the layout to create more bedrooms and enhance functionality for family and friends. They took a cautious approach, making minimal but impactful changes. For example, the design team merged the living room, kitchen, and dining area into one open space. In the bathroom, large-format glazing now frames views of the garden, adding an airy sense of openness.

Seamlessly Connecting Indoor and Outdoor Spaces

OOXOO extended the villa’s interior into the outdoor areas, enhancing its connection to the beautiful surroundings. They added a terrace with a long, concreted dining table and seating by the lava wall. Shaded by a pergola, this terrace also includes an outdoor barbecue kitchen. Upstairs, the design provides space for a yoga studio and a rooftop sun deck with an outdoor shower, perfect for relaxation. The outdoor living terrace seamlessly adjoins the garden and swimming pool, encouraging an easy flow between indoor and outdoor spaces.

Prioritizing Sustainable Choices

OOXOO prioritized sustainable materials and energy-efficient systems in the renovation. They replaced the villa’s floors and walls with white concrete, perfectly suited to the island’s climate. Green tiles in the bathroom reflect Lanzarote’s signature green accents, while local lava stones serve as striking visual features on the terrace and in the bathroom. Solar heating on the roof ensures hot water year-round, while natural ventilation largely eliminates the need for cooling systems. Bedrooms include air conditioning for rare extreme temperatures, although Lanzarote’s mild climate rarely requires it.

Showcasing Local Craftsmanship and Minimalist Furnishings

OOXOO sourced most building materials locally and collaborated with local contractors to embrace the island’s design traditions fully. Furnishings, chosen directly from the island, reflect minimalist style, with only a few vintage pieces and accessories imported from the Czech Republic. This approach creates a cohesive aesthetic that feels both fresh and grounded in Lanzarote’s landscape.

With Villa Amonita Lanzarote, OOOOX combines the island’s traditional design elements with modern touches, resulting in a peaceful retreat that celebrates the natural beauty of Lanzarote.
