Nestled among the undulating pine-covered hills of Yngsjö and just by the tranquil shores of the Baltic Sea, the Yngsjö House by Johan Sundberg Arkitektur AB stands as an ideal summer retreat for a family of four. This thoughtfully designed home celebrates the natural forest setting, opting for simplicity over meticulously landscaped gardens, allowing the surrounding trees to take center stage.

Harmonious Architectural Design

The Yngsjö House is composed of a single volume oriented north to south, creating a balanced and cohesive structure within the landscape. A distinctive recessed section sits at the center of the house, facing west. This area features a sheltered terrace that basks in the evening sun, providing a perfect spot for relaxation and enjoying picturesque sunsets over the Baltic Sea. The design ensures that the house integrates seamlessly with its environment, enhancing the natural beauty rather than competing with it.

Seamless Integration with Nature

The southern section of the house houses the entrance, kitchen, and communal living areas. This part of the home connects effortlessly to the ground, allowing for a fluid transition between indoor spaces and the surrounding nature. Large windows and open layouts invite natural light to flood the interior, creating a bright and airy atmosphere that blurs the boundaries between inside and out. This seamless integration fosters a sense of harmony and tranquility, making the living spaces feel like an extension of the forest itself.

Elevated Private Spaces

In contrast to the communal southern section, the northern half of the house is dedicated to more private areas such as bedrooms and personal retreats. This section gracefully hovers above the terrain on slender pillars, elevating the private spaces and providing expansive windows that offer breathtaking views of the treetops. These large windows not only frame the stunning natural scenery but also establish a direct connection with the surrounding forest canopy, allowing residents to wake up to the soothing sounds and sights of nature every morning.

Elegant Exterior and Warm Interiors

The exterior of Yngsjö House is clad in larch panels, rhythmically interrupted by vertical pilasters that add a touch of elegance and structure to the facade. The floating structure’s underside is concealed with triple-layered larch panels, maintaining clean lines and a cohesive look that complements the natural surroundings. Inside, the home exudes warmth and comfort with oak floors, bespoke carpentry, and meticulously crafted trimmings and doors. The interior ceilings feature slender-profile larch surfaces with overhanging sections, creating a unified and calming atmosphere while enhancing sound absorption throughout the house.

Thoughtful Use of Natural Materials

Every detail of Yngsjö House reflects a commitment to quality and sustainability. The use of natural materials like larch and oak not only adds to the aesthetic appeal but also ensures durability and a long-lasting connection to the environment. The combination of these materials with the open, airy design creates a living space that is both stylish and deeply rooted in its natural setting. The thoughtful selection of materials and design elements results in a home that is as functional as it is beautiful, providing a serene sanctuary for the family to enjoy summer days amidst nature.

Yngsjö House exemplifies how modern architecture can harmoniously blend with the natural environment. By prioritizing the preservation of the forest landscape and integrating thoughtful design elements, this summer retreat offers a comfortable and serene living space that respects and enhances its picturesque location. Every aspect of the house, from its fluid transitions to its expansive windows, ensures that this family home is a peaceful haven deeply connected to the beauty of the surrounding nature.
