Designed for a family of four, this home serves as a sanctuary where each member enjoys their own personal space while benefiting from a light, serene, and luxurious atmosphere. The clients wanted a space that feels calm yet sophisticated, with natural elements and a focus on greenery. Their love for entertainment also influenced the design, with areas dedicated to leisure and social gatherings.
A Design Rooted in Serenity and Functionality
The theme of serenity guided the entire design process, particularly because the layout had low ceilings throughout. To address this, the design team employed a striking neutral palette that enhances the feeling of space and light. The use of wall paneling and a series of arches—varying in size and shape—helps disguise the many doors while adding an element of elegance and continuity to the home.
As you enter, a mirrored panel on the right reflects light, while a beautiful Shrinathji artwork on the left, chosen to reflect the clients’ deep religious beliefs, immediately captures attention. The flooring, crafted from pure white marble with black inlay strips, leads guests into the corridor, where arches and dark ash with black inlay paneling define the circulation of the space.
Integrating Nature and Light
The home is filled with natural light, creating a calm and luxurious atmosphere. White mist marble fluted as a backdrop adds texture and lightness to the design. The inclusion of natural materials like wood flooring and marble, along with green accents in the form of plants and deep green furnishings, further connects the indoor spaces with nature. A tropical-themed chandelier and a green-accented carpet from Cocoon Rugs elevate the living area, adding warmth and character.
Thoughtful Spaces for Living and Leisure
The living and dining spaces are designed to be airy and fluid, facilitating easy movement and interaction. A small study opens up into the public space from the living room, serving as a multifunctional area for the entire family. The guest room, accessible through an ash-black door from the living room, is light and airy with subtle Indian elements. A black wood poster bed, surrounded by a concrete shell and accented with Indian textiles, adds depth and richness to the space.
Personalized Private Quarters
The home’s private spaces reflect the individual tastes of each family member. The master bedroom, with its serene white and beige palette, is highlighted by a green Amazonite marble backdrop and brass accents, creating a tropical-inspired retreat. The daughter’s room, featuring light grey wardrobes and an oak-framed bed, is adorned with white paneling and rust-colored furnishings, offering a soft and inviting space with a beautiful balcony overlooking Banganga.
In contrast, the son’s bedroom is designed with a heavier, more masculine aesthetic. Black wood paneling and deep blue furnishings dominate the space, echoing the sea views outside. The armchair and lighting fixture add bold visual elements, while the flat black ash veneer ceiling maintains continuity with the rest of the house.
Overcoming Design Challenges
The home’s low ceilings and unclear circulation posed challenges, which the design team overcame by incorporating arches to visually heighten the space and using extensive paneling to disguise awkward transitions. With a strict timeline and the use of readily available furniture, the project successfully met the clients’ requirements, combining design innovation with practical solutions to create a harmonious and functional family home.
