When a passionate art collector relocated from the vibrant, artistic energy of Santa Fe to the lush, historic neighborhood of Druid Hills in Atlanta, she sought more than just a house—she was looking for a home that could reflect her identity, honor her decades-spanning art collection, and bring her closer to family. At Adair Estate, this vision came to life through a carefully orchestrated balance between timeless architecture and bold, expressive interiors.
Honoring History While Embracing the Present
The home, a classic Tudor nestled within tree-lined streets and near parks, bike trails, and cultural landmarks, offered the ideal backdrop. However, our design goal was clear: preserve the architectural integrity while breathing new life into each space. At The Drawing Room, we approached this project with both respect and imagination, weaving in elements of the homeowner’s international taste and love for fine art.
Rather than overshadow the Tudor detailing, we chose to enhance it. Clean white walls became the canvas upon which color, form, and texture could be layered. These subtle surfaces allowed the art collection—carefully built over five decades—to take center stage. The resulting effect evokes the ambiance of an intimate private gallery, yet one that never sacrifices warmth or livability.
Artfully Blending East and West
The interior palette draws inspiration from the client’s treasured pieces of Japanese and Chinese design, which we integrated with contemporary works and antique furnishings. These eclectic elements don’t compete—they converse. By deliberately juxtaposing eras and styles, the home finds its rhythm in contrast, creating a refined harmony that feels natural and intentional.
Each room tells a story. Antique wood tones and heirloom textiles bring depth and history, while sculptural lighting, modern ceramics, and clean-lined upholstery introduce a fresh perspective. The result is a curated blend that reflects the client’s global sensibility and evolving life journey.
A Living Gallery of Meaning and Memory
Beyond aesthetics, Adair Estate represents something deeply personal: a space where art, architecture, and family life converge. Designed to be shared with loved ones—especially her granddaughter—the home encourages exploration and connection. Whether wandering through the light-filled hallway admiring a new installation or relaxing by the fireplace beneath a cherished piece, the house invites moments of reflection, conversation, and inspiration.
Ultimately, this project is more than a renovation—it’s a tribute. A tribute to heritage, to creative expression, and to the power of place. Through intentional design choices, expert layering of textures and styles, and a sensitivity to the homeowner’s values, The Drawing Room created a home that is as much a sanctuary as it is a showcase.
