Restoration of a town house overlooking two streets with a minor different in altitude between both. The main façade has been maintained along with the two main bays forming the existing construction, with a new side annex being added to this that contains the rear façade and where the garage is housed.
The Bar House site is 13 acres of gently sloping land abutting a 500 acre protected forest preserve. Access to sunlight and views informed our strategy to locate the structure at the site’s highest elevation. Two linear volumes are stacked in perpendicular fashion.
La Calma House is placed in a small town near Barcelona. Its plot is located in a forest area with a very steep slope and an abundance of pine, oak and olive trees. A natural park in front of the plot and the low building density of the area enhance the connection of the house with its natural surroundings.
This Victorian terrace in South Hampstead already had a split section. The owners thought the steps down to the original kitchen were a negative aspect of the property but MW Architects immediately saw the potential to connect the three key living spaces and open it up into a dramatic but functional family space.
