Originally built in the late 16th century, this Grade II listed barn was thoughtfully reimagined by Liverpool-based Snook Architects, who turned it into a stunning 354-square-meter modern home.
A Challenging Transformation
The path to renovation was far from straightforward. The project faced initial resistance from local planning authorities, who were cautious about altering a structure of such historical significance. However, Snook Architects successfully appealed, thanks to a carefully considered design that struck the perfect balance between preservation and innovation. The restrained aesthetic was a key factor, avoiding overtly domestic touches to honor the barn’s original character.
A Design Rooted in History

The design avoids excessive compartmentalization, favoring an open-plan layout that enhances the sense of space and grandeur.
