Crestway House by Workshop No.5 reflects a family’s wish for a modern one-story home filled with warmth and comfort. Their previous residence had been a minimal white box, so they wanted something more inviting and livable. The 3,400-square-foot layout reuses much of the former house’s footprint, yet it also allows the family to expand or simplify the space as their needs change.
Embracing Privacy and Nature
The house sits near Mt. Bonnell on an active street lined with tall, slim trees. These high-canopy trunks create a natural screen and introduce rhythm to the view. Workshop No.5 designed the home to blend quietly with the site while using the slope that drops eight feet from the road. The low volumes, clad in stucco, wood, and vertical board-and-batten siding, give the building a grounded and elegant look.
Most of the windows open to the backyard and pool, ensuring privacy while strengthening the link with the garden. At the same time, the vertical rhythm of the trees inspired much of the composition, giving Crestway House its calm visual language and sense of depth.
Texture, Warmth, and Contrast
At the center of the plan, a brick fireplace defines the living and dining area. Its rough surface and warm tones add texture and break up the open volume. The same brick appears again at the bar, linking the spaces through color and material.
Meanwhile, cool metal panels around the television and a quartz tile backsplash in the kitchen provide balance. This mix of warm and cool finishes brings depth and character to the interiors. Each choice supports the goal of creating a home that feels refined yet relaxed.
Designed for Growth and Comfort
Flexibility lies at the heart of Crestway House. The plan adapts easily to family needs, expanding for gatherings or closing down for quiet moments. Natural materials and clean geometry ensure longevity, while the thoughtful layout keeps spaces open and fluid.
Ultimately, Crestway House by Workshop No.5 is a contemporary family home that blends comfort, craftsmanship, and timeless design. It proves that simplicity, when guided by warmth, can create a lasting sense of belonging.
