Initially, the owners purchased a bare-shell apartment in a new South-Central Mumbai high-rise. They sought a minimalist home with timeless elegance and abundant natural light. Therefore, the design team focused on essential elements to create a calming space that highlights local materials and eco-friendly principles.
Warm Materials and Subtle Textures
Throughout the apartment, wooden-tiled floors establish a warm, earthy foundation. Meanwhile, recycled teak doors and furniture echo this natural palette. Additionally, textured paint on the walls adds depth. As a result, the neutral backdrop allows art and accessories to introduce vibrant pops of color, effectively balancing understated sophistication with inviting comfort.
Sustainability Through Recycled Wood
Because the design team values sustainability, they chose recycled wood for floors, doors, and furniture. This approach not only reflects eco-friendly values but also keeps the aesthetic cohesive. By limiting furnishings to the essentials, they preserved an airy atmosphere that feels both open and welcoming.
Thoughtful Layout and Flow
An extended entrance lobby leads into the east-facing living and dining area, which serves as the heart of the home. Meanwhile, two bedrooms lie on opposite sides, thereby balancing communal living and personal retreat. Behind the dining space to the west, the design team placed the kitchen and utility zones to maximize both efficiency and privacy.
Smart Storage Solutions
Because space is at a premium, the team tucked wardrobes into niches and alcoves, ensuring that surfaces remain clear of clutter. Furthermore, wooden-tiled floors unify each room, while terracotta cement tiles in the bathrooms create a rustic-meets-modern style.
Understated Luxury in Every Detail
Doors and furniture blend metal and teak wood to deliver durability with refined simplicity. In the kitchen, the design team selected locally sourced exotic granite for the countertop and backsplash, thereby complementing the earthy color palette. Ultimately, East Coast Residence provides a tranquil urban home—soothing its inhabitants and captivating visitors in Mumbai’s dynamic environment.
