This project took a space in an early 19th century building that’s been a textile mill, a Campbell’s soup factory, and finally a condo complex, and tailored it to the clients’ personalities.
The Breaking Walls loft apartment is located on the ground floor of a Bauhaus building preservation next to the sea. The 30-square meter apartment was previously used as a psychology clinic, and was recently purchased by a couple in their 40’s that live in the North.
Created for a family of four, Chelsea Loft imagines a corner unit drenched with sunlight to bring brightness and views deep into the spaces. Efficient, comfortable and open, the 1,300-square-foot home offers a model for family living today.

This apartment gut-renovation inside a 16th century palazzo addresses a number of structural issues and transforms the space into a large, loft-like studio with a mezzanine. The design strategy leaves the majority of ceiling plane uninterrupted, recreating the scale of the original space: once the palace living room, it was subsequently divided into small rooms.
