The Goudvisch Family, known for blending nostalgic charm with modern flair across Amsterdam, has introduced a new gem: LEO. Nestled on the bustling corner of Beukenplein in East Amsterdam, LEO captures the essence of a traditional ‘bruin café’ with contemporary twists, thanks to the innovative design by Studio Modijefsky.

A New Dialogue with Its Surroundings

LEO’s interior draws inspiration from the building’s intricate chamfered architectural details. Featuring textures and hues of soft lavender, grey, and plum, the space creates a sophisticated yet welcoming atmosphere. Walnut-colored wood-clad walls blend seamlessly with oak furniture, adding a touch of elegance.

Pojagi Plum

Studio Modijefsky incorporated Pojagi, a traditional Korean textile art form, into LEO’s design. The Pojagi plum curtains, central to the aesthetic, feature eye-catching patchwork textures that introduce distinct flair and elegance. The plum color unites curtains, leather upholstery, and marble, adding cohesion and depth to the design palette.

Marble Mastery

The impressive bar, a focal point of LEO, is crafted from highly textured burgundy and white marble, accented with aged brass and dark oak wood, and rests on a black and white terrazzo base. This striking bar commands attention, inviting guests on a sensory journey. The back bar features a sturdy metal structure with a wooden backdrop, integrated light boxes, and a signature Goudvisch neon element, adding a dynamic touch. An aged brass board displays the draft beer menu, while liquors are showcased in textured glass cabinets reflected in the back bar mirrors.

Curated Craftsmanship

As guests explore LEO, they encounter meticulously curated details that elevate the experience. Intricate wooden details and bespoke lighting fixtures evoke nostalgia while embracing contemporary flair. The Goudvisch logo is artfully inlaid in marble within the wooden light ornaments, emphasizing a commitment to craftsmanship. Light spheres made from etched and cut glass illuminate the space, brought to life using traditional techniques.

Mezzanine Moments

The mezzanine level offers an intimate retreat with vintage-style lamps casting playful light effects across mirrored walls and benches below. Custom wooden furnishings and select artwork create a captivating ambiance, inviting guests to linger and enjoy the view of the bustling café floor below.

Outdoor Sanctuary

The charming terrace seamlessly blends indoor and outdoor elements. Parasols, ambient lighting, and wooden windscreens create a serene environment where guests can unwind and connect with the neighborhood.

Tradition in Transition

LEO Goudvisch Bar captures the essence of Amsterdam’s rich cultural mosaic. By seamlessly integrating traditional elements with modern sensibilities, it stands as a testament to the city’s enduring spirit, where hospitality meets design excellence.
