Located in Chicago, Millennium Park apartment was designed by Mitchell Channon Design. The project was declared winner of ASID Design Excellence Award 2014.
Description by Mitchell Channon Design: The owners chose this home because of its location adjacent to magnificent Millennium Park, overlooking such architectural gems as Frank Gehry’s Pritzker Pavilion with its ribbons of stainless steel, and Aqua, a hi-rise by Chicago architect Jeanne Gang. Their wonderful mix of lines and curves is now layered into this home’s architecture and furnishings. The result is a place of balance and beauty, in harmony with its surroundings.
Urban sophistication and charm define the living room. The color scheme features jewel tones of aqua, emerald and teal set within a black and white architectural envelope. The teal sofa and emerald dining chairs are stunning against the walnut paneling. Inspired by the nearby Pritzker Pavillion, a curved wall in silver leaf expands the space. Warm walnut joins the living room with the kitchen. Inspired by the nearby Pritzker Pavillion, the metallic ribbons of a ceiling fixture spin light from above.
The curves in burled wood and the sensuous shape of a Donghia chair create a cozy corner in the living room. The mod black wall covering is a swank extension of the theme that renders the flat screen TV unobtrusive.
Centered on the walnut paneling common to the den, the ebony table and emerald leather chairs create a colorful dining area at the heart of the home.
A Tiffany box blue glass backsplash in the kitchen reiterates a color found elsewhere in the home. The undulating Logico ceiling fixture adds a fun set of organic shapes. To create a fully integrated appearance, walnut is used on the cabinetry, the refrigerator and other appliances.
Style and comfort define the den. The aqua lamp complements the rug, while the coffee table/magazine stand and the chaise lounge continue the theme of organic curves. The iron table base and floor lamp add a crisp contrast.
A curved black lacquered shelf in the foyer provides the perfect place for a pair of sculptural candlesticks. The swirling ceiling fixture above adds an organic element that prepares us for what is to come.
Behind the silver leaf wall, a powder room adds surprise and delight. The cone-shaped pedestal sink and table base sit perfectly against a geometric wall-covering.
Aqua walls and a sculptural light fixture frame the restful tones in the master bedroom.
A sumptuous blue/gray silk wall-covering adds texture to the monochromatic color scheme and tailored furnishings of the master bedroom.
A geometric-patterned wall covering and contemporary furnishings deck out a guest room in style. The dark gray in the ceiling and bed covering grounds the room in a deep and restful calm.
A cozy seating group in the living room captures the urban glow of evening, creating a dazzling effect.
