Montefiore Street Apartment brings a modern twist to classic 1920s style in one of Tel Aviv’s oldest buildings. Designed by Oron Milshtein, this pied-à -terre for a Sharon-based couple mixes bold geometry, luxe materials, and hotel-like comfort to create a lively urban retreat.
Design Concept and Inspiration
First, Milshtein drew on Art Deco’s sharp lines and rich craftsmanship. He then scaled these motifs down to suit the apartment’s size. Moreover, he chose a black-and-white palette to keep the space airy. In addition, brass accents and reflective surfaces add warmth without clutter. Consequently, the overall feeling remains both grand and intimate.
Living and Public Spaces
Next, entry through pivoting iron-and-glass doors sets a boutique hotel tone. The foyer’s geometric floor tiles frame the public zone like a vibrant carpet. Meanwhile, black tiles climb the walls to meet brass trim and hand-crafted cornices overhead. Then, the open kitchen-living area unfolds with a brasserie-style layout. Cabinets in metallic gold MDF pair with onyx countertops. In addition, a back-lit brass wine unit and sleek fireplace round out the space. Finally, contemporary art and teal accents inject playful color against the monochrome base.
Private Wing and Bathroom
After that, double doors lead to a corridor and the reinforced security room (MAMAD). Here, a mirrored wardrobe with diamond-patterned glass enhances depth. Inside the bedroom, dark oak parquet and a floating marble headboard create drama. In the ensuite, black-and-white mosaic floors meet green marble-effect walls. Gessi fixtures echo Deco curves, while a Carrara marble vanity ties back to the headboard design.
Challenges and Preservation
Throughout the renovation, Milshtein honored the 1924 Joseph Minor building. He preserved structural limits and the MAMAD layout. However, he still managed subtle layout tweaks to define public versus private zones. In addition, working in the new top-floor addition meant careful coordination with Yaniv Pardo Architects. Ultimately, thoughtful detailing and precise craftsmanship ensured that history and modern needs coexist seamlessly.
At its heart, Montefiore Street Apartment captures the spirit of Gatsby-era gatherings while offering contemporary ease. Consequently, this bespoke pied-Ã -terre stands as a vibrant, unforgettable stay in the heart of Tel Aviv.
