Located on a leafy established street in the inner Melbourne suburb of Malvern, two new controlled and elegant townhouses stand rigidly side by side without giving away some of the more softer elements that can be found within.
lightHOUSE is a renovation of a 1964 Edward Nelson, FAIA, modernist home in the Catalina Foothills. The design concept was to reveal affinities between old and new, and inside and outside, through light, material, and attention to detail.
The Warner Music Group new offices include a boardroom and executive area, coffee bar pantries, copy and mail rooms, conference spaces and wellness rooms. Overlooking an open terrace, the commons serve as a comfortable setting where employees can work, dine, socialize and entertain.
Three elements make up the Hofmann house project. An extruded cover in the longitudinal direction of the ground with a “T” shape is the framework in which space is inhabited. This geometry let us feel the sea, protecting from prying eyes, having the sense of living without neighbors.
An urban walled courtyard house occupying a tough public site, this home was designed for my own family. Brick construction references a material used in many of the original houses in the neighbourhood and provides a memory of the previous house on the site.
This passively designed extension and renovation creates a warm, robust, family and pet friendly space, while protecting a mature Magnolia x soulangeana tree and maximising garden area.
This sustainable smart house is one of opposites; breaching the gap between last century’s construction methods and next century’s technology and ideology.
