The Cranley Drive Residence is a single story house that takes its cue directly from the topography as it climbs the sloping property in four large steps. The design reinterprets many of the hallmarks of West Coast Modernism: a simple roof form, an open-plan layout, planar walls, floor-to-ceiling windows and glazed doors that afford an abundance of natural light and bind the inside with outdoor terraces and views.
This is an addition to an old weatherboard house set within a large garden. The idea was to create a separate sleeping pavillion linked to the existing cottage via extending the old verandah. This creates a separation of sleeping and living areas and links all spaces with the verdant garden.
Gruppo Decorativo architectural office designed the Denk Fabrik all-day restaurant in the German city of Karlsruhe combining robust and earthy materials with bright shades and retro details.
On this beautiful plateau, high on a ridge of the Santa Monica Mountains overlooking the Pacific Ocean, the intention was to respond with an elemental design that strengthens a connection to nature on a vast scale while navigating the natural topography and sculptural rock outcroppings with deft precision.
This project, our second in Manhattan Beach has views of the ocean just blocks away. Lots in this part of Manhattan Beach are exceptionally narrow and long. This, coupled with highly specific zoning rules, leads to consistent architectural outcomes, regardless of the style.
The Pereira Narvaes house is located in Caxias, a mountainous region of southern Brazil. After the visit to the site of the project, it became evident the existence of an incredible view towards a “green wall”, a mountain with an almost vertical slope that would direct the project.
After the successful launch of the SLA salad bar in 2012, 10 locations opened up in the Netherlands since then. From the 11th location onwards Standard Studio is asked to create a new design for the interior of the future SLA salad bars.
The team did a lot of “visual listening” to elicit solutions that honor and preserve the spirit of the original residence while upgrading finishes and updating and refining the plan geometry and adjacencies to maximize function and beauty. I am honored to have been chosen to follow the work of one of Texas’ finest.
