The Upper West Side Apartment is a renovation of a 1970s condo conversion for a young professional. Before the renovation, the apartment’s three distinct levels were disjunctive and forlorn. We sought to establish a common visual language-through materials and detailing-to reinforce the continuity between the three levels.
When we received the demand, one of the first things we thought about was: let’s get away of the classic typology of the exposed house, so massively used in the condominiums of the region – with from top to bottom glazing and a two-story high ceiling.

The design of a newly built home in the Prenzlauer Berg district of Berlin has used furniture designed and made by Loft Kolasinski: a bed, a chaise longue, a table, a bench and hangers. In addition, the project uses unique furniture, lighting and vintage carpets from the 50s, 60s originating from the Czech Republic, Switzerland, Germany and Poland
High open spaces add drama to an otherwise normal suburban setting. The large cantilevered roof protects full height doors from wind, sun and rain, and a clerestory lights the interior.
