Surrounded by the traditional homes of Toronto’s Lawrence Park—an established neighbourhood, with houses circa the 1910s to 1940s—this contemporary 8,657-square-foot house complements its surroundings without blending in.
Inspired by the simple and prevalent image of wood docks found along the edges of the Muskoka lakes, the Muskoka boathouse was conceived as a series of planar elements that slide past one another.
With Lytton Park Residence project, we explore the hip roof typology within the context of a quasi-suburban environment. The apex of the upper volume is off-set toward the west, positioning it adjacent to the larger of its neighbouring houses.
The challenge was to change the standard plan of the apartment, which did not fit the needs of the clients and to customize the space to their dreams. We wanted to create a sense of inviting and spacious space to the relatively small entrance area, 55 sqm.
A Toronto family required a new four-season residence to replace their existing 1930s structure on a west-facing peninsula with the goal of maximizing outdoor living and entertaining.
Located in the community of Oakville, this new home for a family of five nestles into its lot, inviting in the startling lushness of the neighbouring property through an amply fenestrated east elevation. The two-storey, five-bedroom house is efficiently designed to maximize opportunities for natural light, engaging site and landscape through the provision of a generous courtyard and two outdoor decks.
A winner of the 2017 AZ People’s Choice Awards, Strata House is a 30,000 sq. ft. residential project that was inspired by hillside mid-century modern homes in California. The design begins with the excavation of the property’s landscape to create a series of curved vineyard-like terraces.
