The renovations + additions took cue from this wall utilizing a variety of bricks throughout the extension. Recycled bricks sourced extended the remnant wall, adding texture and colour in an otherwise monochrome extension.
Clifftop residence originated from the idea of building a three-storey extension in a sliver of land perched on the edge of a cliff. As the first sketches were presented a landslide occurred, destroying an enormous historic porphyry wall bounding the property along Walker Avenue.
The clients approached Madeleine Blanchfield Architects to design a new home in a heritage conservation area in Sydney’s East. The remainder of the Queens Park house is contemporary, light filled in contrast to the original.
The challenge from the beginning was to maximize the hardscape and landscape areas at the rear of the house to include a pool, a yard, and exterior living space. The Green Oak residence focuses on modern minimal casework details with a distinct emphasis on textures and materials.
The corner lot at the base of San Jacinto Mountain in the Vista Las Palmas tract in Palm Springs included an altered mid-century residence originally designed by Charles Dubois with a simple, gabled roof originally in the ‘Atomic Ranch’ style and sweeping mountain views to the west and south.
This is an addition to an old weatherboard house set within a large garden. The idea was to create a separate sleeping pavillion linked to the existing cottage via extending the old verandah. This creates a separation of sleeping and living areas and links all spaces with the verdant garden.
This renovation and addition transforms a Victorian-Era cottage into a light filled showcase home for the Builder client. Distinct connections, materials and forms separate major elements within the house, while dissolving the additional mass externally to create an expansive and richly detailed experience.
