Completed in 2016 by the Brazilian studio Obra Arquitetos, the Lens House is a private residence located in São José dos Campos, São Paulo, Brazil. Designed for a couple seeking a space for contemplation and reflection, the house merges intimacy and openness through innovative architectural solutions.
When Casa REX, an important Brazilian design office, came to us looking for a reform of its new seat, the initial goal was to create a new identity for the physical space of the office, which didn’t exist before because of its rapid expansion.
This house represents a very common situation in São Paulo, a long and narrow ground [5.6×30.0m], with only the front elevation free of interference of the buildings around it. The challenge increased from the moment that we had to meet an extensive program for this area, which led us to maximum occupancy allowed, 170m2.
Directed by an existing structure, we tried to make the project assimilate this structural interferences in a natural way in its external volume: the unevenness on the front facade was further accentuated by metal vertical louvers that help in the composition of the facade.
This is a getaway house erected in the city of Piracicaba, 250km away from Sao Paulo. It is intended to serve as a meeting point for a family whose members are scattered across various cities around the state.

Located on Brazil’s beautiful Natal coast in Rio Grande do Norte, Two Beams House offers an open environment that immerses residents in nature.
Clouds, drizzle, rain, snow or hail, in all its physical states water is related to sky. However, if we are requested to think about a [swimming] pool, our imagination automatically starts to dig into the ground. Seas, lakes, and ponds explain the reason we react in that direction: essentially, a pool fells like a piece of a lake.
Designed by Felipe Hess in collaboration with associate Federico Concilio, Lara house was commissioned by a young businessman who needed enough space to entertain his family and friends. Lara house is located in São Paulo and has a built area of 350 sq.m.
