Primary features of this Dickerman weekend retreat house are its simple, open form and clean aesthetic. It emphasizes natural materials including a stone fireplace, Douglas Fir interior finishes, and indoor / outdoor rooms with a visual connection to the natural setting.

The brief was to design a new energy efficient, low maintenance house filled with natural light for a couple and their extended family when they visit. The Longis View house is orientated to maximise the spectacular coastal views to the south of the site whilst retaining the sense of intimacy, set slightly into the hillside to the north.

The Glade residence is sunk into the topography of the site, within a clearing in the trees, hence the name ‘The Glade’.
