This heavy constraint did not limit the ambition of extending this family home and opening connections with the garden, while balancing the need of protecting the privacy from the overlooking neighbouring properties.
The intention was two-fold, firstly to lengthen and consolidate the experience of the original Hawthorn house by extending the formal corridor to a third bay, and restoring the original ceiling height and heritage detail throughout.
The site for the project is located in Otopeni city, adjacent to Bucharest. It consists of a generous plot on which an old 100 sqm house was located. The Origami house had a basement, ground floor, first floor and attic.
The expansion of this 1930s Outremont residence echoes the classical architectural language of this elegant residential neighbourhood. The new exterior finishing materials—hewn Saint-Marc limestone and tinned copper eaves—harmonize with those of the original structure
