Marvel Architects designed this weekend house, for year-round use, on Red Creek Road in the town of Southampton, New York. Situated on a 3.64 acre site, the house has stunning views to both The Great Peconic Bay and the forest.
This South Harbor house began with the merging of two, half acre, waterfront lots situated on a small cove in North Haven with sweeping views of Sag Harbor Cove, the village wharf and a small, salt water pond.
The Bedolla house was designed in a complex topography terrain located between mountains and filled with large cedars and oaks. The stone and concrete walls clearly define the heart of the project: a linear courtyard that from the entry runs towards the small oak forest at the foot of the ravine.
The owner, a single urban man who lives in Tel Aviv, has found a 35 sqm apartment in southern Tel Aviv. The apartment at the time of purchase was suitable for the budget however the property was seedy and uninhabitable.
The Through residence uses this position to set up a distant dialogue between the 2 green spaces. In front, a U-shaped balcony cantilevers out above street level to channel the park into the interior where raintree canopies frame an intimate study.
The Tree Top Residence celebrates the site’s complex landscape, merging with it seamlessly and emerging from it atop the canopy of trees that surround it. Built along a natural ridgeline, the long and narrow plan of the three-story house mimics and inverts the angles of the site’s topography, creating dynamic vertical and horizontal relationships.
The Las Lomas Residence is envisioned in two distinct elements; the “frame” which defines the public realm and main living areas, while the limestone clad volumes enclose the private family areas of the house.
The residence is composed of three rectilinear masses varying in size and tone; each clad in a distinct corrugated metal siding with a subtle change of finish. From the street the residence appears to rest on an island which is accessed only by a bridge.
