Our response was inspired and directed by the client’s determined assertion that she was merely the current caretaker of this ‘old lady’; of this building that had preceded and would surely succeed her into the future.
Built by hand by the original owner, this 1940s period home in Ascot vale is a labour of love. With all the grandeur to be expected of an art deco dwelling, the former building itself was quite modest in its construction, with just two bedrooms in the efficient arrangement.
Sitting at the end of a row of similar late 19th century terraces, the site for this project was fortunate enough to sit on a block that had double-width proportions to the back due to a small electrical substation next door.
Malvern Garden House is a highly-considered adaption of an existing 1930’s period home in a hilly suburban pocket, with a new pavilion embedded within the terraced garden to the rear.
The Brooks House required a full scale renovation, and 2-storey addition to create a cozy family-home in the inner east of Melbourne. Indoor – outdoor living using the abundance of natural light in this combined area.
This new house in the rich urban environment of North Fitzroy was designed to be built by the builder owner for his young family.
