Sorrel House is a project that explores the juxtaposition between historical context and contemporary architecture within a broader subtropical paradigm. Beyond the initial stark contrast that presents between the new and old, a more subtle debate about edges, openings and thresholds is being had.
A private, landscaped, north-east courtyard forms the catalyst of the ‘V House’, which sits proudly on the edge of Sunshine Coast’s Mooloolah River. The ‘V’ refers to the floor plan which hugs the boundaries of the property allowing for a transparent living pavilion that physically and visually connects the courtyard to the water beyond.
Dover house is a project that involves the fusion of a traditional Queenslander and a concrete garden room. The idea incorporates an extruded section of the pitched roof that forms a portal to the back yard, the centre of gravity for family life.
Known as the Edge of Rainforest, this modern coastal house has been updated to reflect the coastal location throughout, with soft neutral colours, smoked oak floors and white lining boards in joinery.
Glasshouse Mountains Residence was designed by architect Rebecca Caldwell of Maytree Studios for her brother Andrew, his wife Katie and their three children. Over several years Andrew completed staged alterations and additions
The sloping site runs down to a lush garden to the West, where mature trees and outlook provide a beautiful protected rear garden. The clients, living in a high set Queenslander wanted to live on the garden level so that their young children can play outside without constant supervision and enjoy the garden.
On the Eastern side of a rolling hill with views to Hamilton and the river beyond, the Christian house is fortunate to command a wider than normal frontage, enabling not only varied forms and volumes but a much more generous plan than most inner city houses.
Rocky House represents the clients appreciation for clean simple designs, with a close connection to the landscape. Natural materials of quarried bluestone, cararra marble and rosewood represent a minimal palette that unifies all spaces throughout the house, providing a backdrop for unique experiences throughout the design.
