The clients were a family living abroad that commissioned us to design a holiday home that included a 20m pool as they wished to form a connection back to their native Aotearoa.
Tiri House / Strachan Group Architects
Ideally sited just below a ridgeline, with panoramic views stretching southeast from Oneroa Bay, to Hakaimango Point and the Hauraki Gulf beyond, the Tiri House was designed to take advantage of the views without sacrificing protection and refuge from the elements.

The brief was for a primary residence for a couple without children with provision for occasionally used guest accommodation for friends visiting from overseas. The site as presented was a steep slope with magnificent sea and coastal views to the east into which a building platform had already been cut, with its associated timber pile retaining wall.

Tent House / Chris Tate Architecture
Located in Waiheke Island, New Zealand, the Tent house is a small home designed by Chris Tate Architecture. Set in bush and bounded on three sides by roads and a wetland, the site was challenging. The tent-like structure of the house responds to those restrictions in a daring and dynamic way.
