Tree X Tree House by North Arrow Studio is a striking example of how thoughtful design can seamlessly integrate a modern home into its natural surroundings. Tucked behind a grove of nine protected live oak trees, this 3,200-square-foot, two-story house is carefully positioned to honor the landscape and preserve the natural beauty of its site. With a detached garage, cabana, and pool, the property offers a peaceful retreat, all while celebrating the stunning oak trees that dominate the space.
Design Concept: A Home Shaped by Trees
The design of Tree X Tree House is entirely shaped by the presence of the live oak trees. The home steps back in some areas and floats in others to accommodate the trees and provide space for their sprawling branches. The double-height living room, with its custom all-glass wall, offers uninterrupted views of the surrounding oak canopy, bringing the outdoors inside and creating a profound connection to nature.
To maintain a close relationship with the natural landscape, the kitchen and sunken living and dining areas are designed to stay as close to grade as possible, ensuring the home feels grounded within its environment. The pool courtyard, an oasis of calm, features a mature live oak that grows right through the roof of the building. A slanted glass solarium gracefully curves to allow the tree to pass through, creating a one-of-a-kind space that is literally rooted in the site.
Conclusion: A Masterpiece of Integration
Tree X Tree House is more than just a home; it’s an architectural masterpiece that harmonizes with nature. North Arrow Studio’s careful consideration of the site’s live oak trees has resulted in a house that feels organically connected to its surroundings. By placing the trees at the forefront of the design, the home achieves a unique blend of modern living and natural beauty, offering a serene space that truly celebrates the landscape.
