Victoria House is a carefully updated home that connects its rich past with modern liveability. Located on a narrow site in Malvern, this renovation and addition optimizes every inch of space while respecting the established character of the neighborhood.
Honoring Heritage, Opening New Possibilities
The project keeps the heritage front of the house intact while creating new openings that frame natural elements. Inspired by the original Spanish villa style, the design reinterprets arched openings in fresh and varied forms. The use of grounded masonry provides a strong material presence that ties the new work to the historic home. Despite the site’s limitations, the floor plate expands to the rear across two levels. This flexible layout is designed to adapt to future needs and bring a better sense of connection throughout the home.
Thoughtful Design for Comfort and Efficiency
The design balances privacy with a welcoming enclosure. Multiple layers control sightlines, manage heat gain, and ensure abundant natural light. When combined with a newly planned landscape and pool, the addition weaves seamlessly into the existing structure. Solid and transparent elements work together to create visual interest. Notably, the upper-level addition is concealed behind the silhouette of the original house, which maintains the street frontage and the home’s character.
A Modern Hub for Family Life
The realigned kitchen serves as the heart of the home. A dramatic 5-meter island bench anchors the space and becomes a key feature for entertaining. All new insertions enhance available space while supporting everyday family tasks. In addition, the upper level makes full use of the gable roof to define the interior ceiling profile, adding both style and function.
In conclusion, Victoria House combines heritage and modern design to create an enhanced home. The result is a thoughtful, well-appointed residence that offers flexible, shared zones and a warm, connected living environment for its owners.
