Jeremy and Emma approached Daniel Marshall Architects late in 2015 after they had recently purchased a 1970’s St Heliers house designed by the architect, Robert Railley, for his own family home.
Brick & Gable House is designed for a family of four. We were initially engaged to build a larger house for them, but after spending time living overseas, they returned realising that they could live in a smaller footprint.
This Federal-style townhouse, once located in the historical Washington Street Market active from the 1770s to 1960s, was used for most of its life as an egg and poultry distributor.
The 26-year-old house is situated in the Anadolu Hisari district of Istanbul, famed for its Beauteous Castle, the oldest surviving example of an Ottoman architectural structure from which the storied and opulent neighborhoods takes its name.
The brief was to create a light, bright, and comfortable open plan home which was family friendly and great for entertaining whilst making the most of their 490sqm site.
The house dates from 1930, with a facade of 7m wide and a built depth of 10m. This town house survives the real estate pressure and the transformation of the neighborhood that has been replacing this typology with multi-family buildings of more than 4 floors as those that surround it.
This project was for a young couple relocating back to Santa Rosa from New York. They sought to update a mid-century ranch home they purchased in the hills of Santa Rosa – with a distinct vision.
The project is driven by the clients vision to restore and preserve a beautiful doubly storey weatherboard bungalow in Williamstown.
