Nestled within an elongated trapezoidal plot, Bundle House by NOMO Studio transforms a challenging site into an architectural triumph. The villa spans 350m² and ingeniously navigates the contours of its surroundings to offer unparalleled views of the Mediterranean Sea. Initially faced with the obstacle of an oblique orientation towards the sea, the architects strategically crafted open corners that unveil breathtaking sunset vistas, turning every challenge into a design opportunity.

A Bold Design Strategy

From the outset, NOMO Studio subdivided the extensive program into nine rectangular volumes of varying heights. Consequently, these volumes step gracefully down the slope while weaving around majestic trees. As a result, the stair-like setbacks follow the plot’s trapezoidal shape and create intimate pockets of privacy in the garden. Moreover, this approach seamlessly blends indoor and outdoor spaces, ensuring that natural elements remain an integral part of the design.

Inside, a central 6×6 meter patio floods the interiors with natural light. This dynamic courtyard, furnished with a built-in sofa and lounge puffs, serves multiple functions. In summer, it provides shade and cross ventilation, while in colder months, it transforms into a wind-sheltered retreat. Additionally, sliding open two full-height corner windows connects the porch, living area, and patio into one expansive space. These tactically positioned openings appear to defy gravity with their cantilevered edges, offering unfettered sea views and naturally cooling the interior through a chimney effect. In parallel, tall volumes with low-set openings promote natural ventilation as warm air ascends, thereby contributing to a comfortable indoor environment.

Seamless Integration of Form and Materials

Furthermore, the architectural expression of Bundle House emphasizes exposed concrete beams that span between sturdy masonry walls and slender metal columns. This creates an uninterrupted base of glazed façade that links indoor and outdoor spaces. In addition, the villa’s geometry follows a clear construction technique with ceramic vaulted ceilings and concrete blocks that establish a cohesive design language. The light, sandy-coloured façade harmonizes with the surroundings, helping to keep the interior cool and serene. Moreover, local sandstone pavements mirror the ceiling pattern of joists and vaults, reinforcing the design’s rooted connection to the landscape.

Indoors, a soft, earthy colour palette and natural materials create an inviting atmosphere. Sandstone, ceramic, granite, and wood enrich the tactile and visual experience. By contrast, the minimalist façade gives way to an interior abundant in textures and intricate patterns, with openly displayed construction methods that celebrate craftsmanship. Upon entering the double-height hall, visitors are greeted by an abundance of daylight, enhanced by a sculptural, metal curved stair that elegantly connects both floors. The ground floor spaces effortlessly flow around the courtyard, while upstairs corridors turn into bright open halls that visually connect to other areas of the house.

In addition, the ensuite bedrooms exude spaciousness, featuring open washbasins, large mirrors, and fluted-glass cabins for WC and shower. Moreover, wardrobes designed as open cabinets with curtains add softness to the overall interior design while optimizing space utilization.

Finally, the pool seamlessly merges with the architecture as it encircles the dining area, creating a captivating visual effect that makes one feel as though they are dining amidst the tranquil embrace of water. A quirky staggered stair leads to the rooftop terrace, where stunning views towards Mallorca Island complete this architectural masterpiece with a touch of whimsy and charm.

In conclusion, Bundle House by NOMO Studio exemplifies the art of turning spatial challenges into innovative design solutions. By integrating meticulous planning, dynamic open spaces, and a harmonious blend of natural materials, this villa offers an inspiring retreat that captures the essence of Mediterranean living.
