By using appropriately primitive materials and craft techniques, designer Stephanie Langard has created Domestic Gathering Carpet. Its purpose is to bring people together who have fallen apart and isolated themselves due to the new technologies. Designer Stephanie Langard has chosen fire as a primitive element that has the power to draw people together. The carpet is made of leather and copper. Copper is one of the first metals extracted from ore and it was selected due to its distinguished properties of conductivity. It enables the heat of the fire to warm up the entire carpet along with those who are sitting on it and enjoying themselves. Because it is flexible, it is woven by hand along with the leather strips creating a mat surface. The lack of a flue makes it unsuitable to be used inside, but it is ideal for outside spaces, cold floors made of stones and camping sites where you can reunite with family and friends.
