New York architecture studio Dash Marshall has turned two Tribeca residences into one home – Raft Loft – connected by a hanging, blackened steel spiral staircase. We renovated the entirety of the ground floor, executed limited interventions to the second floor, and inserted a new staircase to connect the two spaces with a series of intermediate levels.
The reconversion was closely overseen by the administrative authorities, since this old factory in the city centre miraculously avoided damage during the many bombings of World War II.
The architect was contacted to provide design services completing the unfinished adaptive reuse of the historic 19th century Cohen Building in downtown Nashville. Berg Design redesigned this Greenwich Village apartment to expose as much of the apartment to natural light. The new plan revolves around a vast living area and kitchen relocated adjacent to oversized windows. Industrial sized steel and glass doors were used to bring natural light into interior spaces.
