Monaci delle Terre Nere is a boutique hotel situated on the slopes of Mount Etna, the highest volcano from Europe, in Sicily, at an altitude of 500 meters. Villa Monaci dates from 1800 and it has belonged to the monks of Saint Anna’s order.
The hotel is surrounded by a 17 hectares organic farm, where there are plantations of olive, vineyards, fruit, vegetables and spices. The rich volcanic soil allows the abundant ecological productions of which the guests that are accommodated at the hotel benefit. The restoration was completed in 2014 under the direction of the architect Giuseppe Merendino that was made on the principles of bio-architecture. The greatest desire of the owner was to keep the historical identity and local traditions.
The interior is arranged on a concept that combines the Sicilian tradition with contemporary art and modern design. Monaci delle Terre Nere makes available 15 rooms for its guests, being a place where you can relax far away from any interference, the hotel encourages Digital Detox.
The owner tells us that: “In the process of restoring the buildings we have applied the principles of Bio-architecture. Over 50% of our energy comes from renewable energy such as sun and wood. The air is magic and serene carrying the scent of citrus and jasmine on the breeze, from the start of the day the earth, the land, the sun create a full palate of colors as the day stretches through to dusk, to one side the sea glistening in the sun, to the other Mount Etna slumbers.” Via Monaci
