On a site with challenging accessibility, no electricity, no water and no cellular service, the Phoenix retreat is conceived as a folly in the landscape; a viewing platform, a fire lookout, a shady spot for a picnic, a remote crash pad for limited stays, a place to become detached, a place to commune with the landscape, a place for contemplation.
Nestled in a high-end enclave at Kuala Lumpur, this bungalow house is an ancestral residence that is home to a young family. Their brief was to modernize the home while preserving its existing layout and form to conserve their familiarity and comfort.

Tama’s Tee Home was constructed on what was solid and reusable from the previous house. Approximately fifty-percent of the previous structure was kept, including the large sandstone retaining wall to the front of the home and the garage beneath.
The project was born from the idea to link the different spaces of the house by means of a unifying element. This concept was materialized employing a suspended ceiling that communicated both ends of the apartment and overlaid the existing elements and the new intervention.
