Pebble Beach Weekend House by Feldman Architecture is a stylish retreat designed for a couple from Los Gatos who love surfing and golfing. They wanted a comfortable, spacious, and airy home to host weekend visits from family and friends. After purchasing a 1970’s fixer-upper along the Monterey Peninsula Country Club, our team envisioned an extensive remodel that channels a distinctively Northern Californian mid-century feel.
Blending Heritage with Modern Flair
We reimagined the home by drawing inspiration from the iconic visual language of Sea Ranch. For example, the exterior is clad in Western Red Cedar siding paired with dark metal accents, which reference traditional wood and concrete finishes. At the same time, casual, colorful, and Malibu-inspired modern interiors, designed by Raili Clasen from Orange County, brighten foggy days. These contemporary touches stand in contrast with the understated, natural material selections throughout the house.
Open and Inviting Living Spaces
The renovation focused on reconfiguring and illuminating the public areas. As a result, the open-plan kitchen, living room, and dining room now open eastward toward rolling golf course vistas. Originally, the home featured a double-height living room. However, we shifted the upstairs bedrooms to the ground floor so that the previously dim and cramped dining room and kitchen could expand into a bright, double-height main living area. Upstairs, a library and work loft overlook the main living space, creating a private, comfortable nook away from the bustle below.
Enhanced Functionality and Outdoor Views
Moreover, the expanded ground floor now includes a new guest suite and a full mud and laundry room. In addition, the renovated garage doubles as a surf shack with a dedicated parking spot for a golf cart—perfect for cruising around Pebble Beach. New roof decks on either side of the home invite in stunning views of the Pacific Ocean to the west and the golf course and rear yard to the east.
In summary, Pebble Beach Weekend House successfully blends heritage and modern design to create an inviting retreat. It offers a balanced mix of relaxed California style and functional living, making it an ideal home for both everyday comfort and memorable getaways.
