Natan Hostins Design designed the renovation of this apartment, located in the city of Gaspar, state of Santa Catarina – Brazil, for a young couple – she is a stylist and he is a lawyer. Focusing on the specific needs of the clients, the project adapted the original plan, transforming each room into a unique expression of comfort and style.
The clients wanted a fluid and adaptable space, both for festive moments and for daily use, also considering the presence of Barthô, a 40 kg Golden Retriever who needs space to move. At 7 years old, the pet has always lived in an apartment and, although he spends part of the day at daycare, he lives in the property as a whole.
The entrance hall, designed in a “U” shape with rounded corners, has indirect lighting in the plaster, which creates a welcoming and unique atmosphere. From this space, the visitor is led to explore the living room, which reveals surprises at every step. Portobello’s Lombarda Viva Avorio porcelain tile was the main piece chosen to guide the project, balancing rusticity and sophistication throughout the social area.
In the TV room, the wooden panel houses a built-in china cabinet with a mimic door, which can be used as a support on festive days. The space, designed in neutral tones, comes to life with a terracotta sofa, which contrasts with the Verde Guatemala marble fireplace. Next door, a corner dedicated to vinyl offers a mix of music, literature and art objects. A tour through various eras, but fully connected to the contemporary world.
The home office was repositioned next to the TV room, where the kitchen originally was, which made it possible to optimize the apartment’s cross ventilation and add greater depth to the space. A detail of the environment is the “loose” piece of furniture in the center of the bookshelf, designed to store wines, cigars and hot drinks, both of which were designed by the office. The built-in table, in São Gabriel Escovado Granite, was designed for quick work, such as answering emails or holding specific meetings.
The electric piano, initially purchased by the client, who has been playing since childhood and covers different musical genres, from jazz to North American country, began to be shared with his wife, who also fell in love with music and currently plays in her leisure. Passionate about collected pieces, the couple also brought a chest of drawers, a tea cart, statues and trunks from their old apartment, which blend into the surroundings and tell their own stories.
The new kitchen was relocated close to the main window, where the gas barbecue was also integrated in order to favor the organic-shaped central island, which has its countertop in Taj Mahal Marble, as well as the niches and the pedestal, which complement the design. elegant and fluid environment.
One of the main highlights of the project is the inversion of the position of the master suite bathroom and the closet. The internal walls have rounded corners, covered with Portobello ceramics, and a curved niche for shampoo and cosmetics connects to the shower stall in a harmonious way.
To create a visual connection between the bedroom and the bathroom, the wall was covered with wooden panels with a glass opening that adds a touch of elegance. The headboard wall is covered with White Paraná Quartzite. The choice of the bed was made by the clients themselves, who were looking for a design that embraced them and at the same time connected with the organic shapes of the walls.
The bathroom, discreetly hidden by a panel door, is covered with Borastapeter wallpaper, from Select Paper, which extends to the ceiling and creates the sensation of entering a cave or forest. Soft lighting behind the mirror adds depth and the countertop lamp generates a welcoming light. The environment was developed to be a space for contemplation, as an opportunity to leave everyday life and enter a fictional world, in which we should be more connected.
