Barcelona interior designer Brákara Studio proudly unveils the spectacular refurbishment of a 55m² penthouse. Located in an old residential building amidst the towering office structures of Zona Fira in L’Hospitalet, Barcelona, this transformation introduces radical changes with a well-studied interior design. The new layout and custom-designed furniture by Brákara Studio bring new life to the space.

Before the Renovation

Before the renovation, the living room’s deep blue walls made the space unwelcoming. The kitchen, separated from the rest of the day area, occupied a narrow space. The previous owners barely used the two terraces, totaling more than 30m², except for hanging out the washing.

A New, Light-Filled Space

Now, the house stands out for its natural light in all rooms: entrance hall, day area with dining room, kitchen, living room, office, double bedroom, and bathroom. The two terraces offer distinct spaces: a social area with a dining room and lounge, and a private relaxation area with a Balinese bed and outdoor shower.

Open to Light and the Outdoors

Upon entering the flat, natural light floods the interior. A custom-made piece of white furniture with a wooden top and a half-height glass partition separates the entrance hall from the day area. With no doors, the circulation in the foyer remains open, leading to the day area on one side and the office on the other.

The Office Area

The office is located in the space that used to be the narrow kitchen. A natural wood desk is recessed into a plain white wall that camouflages several cupboards, providing excellent storage solutions.

Aesthetic Harmony in the Day Area

The day area achieves aesthetic harmony through white and wood furniture, with black contrasts and subtle touches of color, like the blue upholstered sofa. The kitchen island is the focal point, around which the rest of the spaces are arranged. The uniformity of the kitchen furniture in pristine white, along with the rest of the living room, creates a welcoming atmosphere and a sense of spaciousness. Large windows on both sides of the day area provide access to the two penthouse terraces.

Two Spectacular Terraces for Different Moments

Brákara Studio has transformed the terraces into a city oasis. The social terrace, accessible from the kitchen, features comfortable seating with an outdoor sofa and coffee table. At the opposite end, the private terrace next to the lounge area offers a Balinese bed and shower, perfect for relaxation. Wooden slatted paving, white stones, artificial grass, abundant natural plants, and rattan and cane furniture enhance the outdoor spaces.

Bedroom and Bathroom in White

The bedroom, with direct access to the terrace, features custom-designed white furniture. The bed, inserted in the wall, has three white shelves above it serving as a headboard. Decorative elements such as paintings, natural plants, and the iconic Santa & Cole basket lamp by Miguel Milà add warmth and character. The bathroom extends the commitment to white harmony, with wooden furniture adding warmth. Square wall tiles complement the movement effect created by a round, backlit mirror.

Conclusion

Brákara Studio has masterfully transformed a dull flat into an urban oasis in the heart of the city’s business district. This small penthouse with two terraces provides a unique privilege for its owners, complementing the comfortable and bright refurbishment of all its rooms.
